:: North Jeffco Last Chance (2/16/08)

**********************************************************************

We had a great time at the North Jeffco Last Chance Swim Meet held in Arvada over the weekend (Feb. 16th and 17th).  We had six swimmers on Saturday and eight on Sunday.

Nice job to everyone who participated: Brandon, Jackson, Rachel, Trevor, Sarah, Eva Claire, Theo, Lily, Evan, and Cami!

There were two Swim Dog firsts this weekend:

We had enough Swim Dogs for two relays on Sunday.  Cami, Lily, Eva Claire, and Rachel teamed up to swim the 200 Free Relay, and they did a great job.  Then Theo, Jackson, Evan, and Brandon swim the 400 Free relay (each person swimming a 100 free).

Even more exciting was when Brandon Hougard become the first Swim Dog to qualify for Silver State.  He made it in two events: 100 Breaststroke and 50 Freestyle.  Brandon will be competing at Silver State at DU next weekend.  The Breaststroke is on Friday, and the Free is on Sunday.  GOOD LUCK BRANDON!

As Coach Mark does for every meet, he challenges some of the Swim Dogs to step up and swim events that are just out of their comfort zone.  Again, those challenged did a great job:  Rachel Uyemura in the 200 Breaststroke and Cami Shigaya in the 50 butterfly.

We made some new friends, too, as Sarah Henderson and Eva Claire Jarecke hung out together all day on Saturday.  We could barely get them out of the warm-up pool to swim their races!

Thanks to all the parents who helped out as well (especially on Sunday).  USA Swimming meets are a little different experience than Summer League.  You have to take on much more responsibility for getting your children to their events.  I am happy to say that we have not missed an event yet.  I am, in fact, a little surprised by that.

Thanks also to Rachel, Brandon, and Jackson for keeping the weekend fun and for helping out with some of the Swim Pups.
