:: Duel in the Pool (08/23/08)

**********************************************************************

Forty swimmers showed up for the 2nd Annual "Duel in the Pool" this Saturday at the Hampden Heights Pool.  Special thanks for Whole Foods and Starbucks for sponsoring the events and providing the breakfast, coffee, and water!

Many teams from around the neighborhood are recognizing us as the "Funnest Team on the Planet," and want to participate in our events:  In addition to Hampden Heights swimmers, we also had families from Eastmoor and The Preserve.

The Purple People Eaters, coached by Stacey Shigaya, had a stacked team and dominated the undermanned Green Goblins, coached by Jamie Sarche: The Final Score was Purple People Eaters 69 and the Green Goblins 68.

Purple People Eater's Coach Stacey Shigaya stresses out about her team and gives herself a neck massage.  She was also embarrassed by her husband Steve.

Green Goblin Coach Jamie Sarche tries to bribe the Meet Director by offering to rub sunscreen on his back.

Everyone had fun during the "recreational meet of the recreational league," and the event culminated the summer league season by combining the child and masters' swimmers.

Steve Shigaya embarrasses his family.

Sam Perry exposed himself as the biggest whiner on the Green Goblins and couldn't figure out why he was always penalized.

In addition to several individual events "for real," there were several relays and some whacky events including "The Dogging Bark-Paddle," Dive for Distance, 50M Individual Medley, 25M Underwater, and the Noodle Relay.

Both Teams Warm-up Together

The "Old Guys" warmed up in Lane 5 and wondered who was in charge of turning on the jets for their hot tub.

Louis Orzolek also is penalized with the "Wardrobe Malfunction" penalty...or did he borrow Steve's gear?

It was a great way to finish the season and we're already looking forward to the Swim Dogs at TJ and next summer!
