:: Rocky Mountain Splash Visit (10/17/08) **********************************************************************
Friday Night, 10/17, the Rocky Mountain Splash Synchronized Swim Team came by our practice and taught us a few moves.

Synchro was started in Canada in the early 1900s and became a Olympic demonstration sport in 1952. It became an official Olympic sport in the 1984 games. The Rocky Mountain Splash has been around Denver for nearly thirty years, and they brought five of their girls to show us the sport and teach us a routine. Their team practices three days a week and up to three hours per practice! This last year, one of their swimmers, Janet Culp, competed in Beijing with the US Olympic squad. After stretching, three of the gals performed for us. During the routine, they must hold their breath for up to 45 seconds...while upside-down!

After the performance, the Swim Dogs broke into practice groups with the Splash girls as teachers, and we learned a routine!

If you missed it, it's really too bad. Even the dads (with Coach Mark & Tate) performed for the group. IT WAS HILARIOUS! Events like these are what makes the Swim Dogs experience special; try not to miss them! |
